Microcurrent Therapy

Microcurrent therapy uses very low-level electrical currents to treat nerve and muscle pain. These electric microcurrents help injured tissue heal at a faster pace and provide a high level of relief from pain caused by an injury. At Island Chiropractic, our chiropractor near Levittown can give you treatment to recover from whatever pain you may be going through.

How it works

Your body has a natural electrical frequency that allows for communication between your cells. If you are injured or if your signals become weak, your cells are not able to do their job effectively. Microcurrent therapy assists your body in repairing your electromagnetic communication, which allows your injured cells to repair themselves. By restoring this cellular frequency, your body can reduce pain and inflammation while improving blood flow and bodily functions.

A microcurrent therapy session at Island Chiropractic can treat conditions such as:

  • Arthritis
  • Neck or back pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Sports injuries
  • Tendon pains

A typical microcurrent therapy session involves the patient relaxing on a table or chair while conductors, called electrodes, are attached on specific areas of your body to properly target the correct tissues. Warm towels are used to assist in the conduction process. The shocks from the electrodes are minuscule and you will not be able to feel them. Depending on your condition, a typical therapy session can last anywhere between fifteen and ninety minutes. Multiple sessions are recommended as the benefits only increase over periods of time.

Patients have started microcurrent therapy sessions to look younger. Microcurrent therapy is now being used as an anti-aging beauty treatment, as sessions improve overall skin appearance. Sessions have been known to increase facial muscles and diminish wrinkles and lines in the face.

Microcurrent therapy is FDA-approved and has no particularly harmful side effects. A microcurrent therapy session is not recommended for those who are pregnant or wear a pacemaker. Some side effects that may last between four and twenty-four hours include:

  • Fatigue
  • Drowsiness
  • Nausea
